Packing

I'm off to do some work on a scanning project (which will be the subject of a later post) and got to thinking about packing.
For this trip, I've had to pack the following equipment: Laptop and all peripherals, SLR, compact camera, GPS, soldering iron, tools, trowel, notebooks and loads of little things too fiddly to mention. This is before I list the basics like food, toiletries and medicine (in this case, the area I'm going to requires anti-malarials and a good supply of DEET). I'm not even taking some of the bulkier equipment such as the 3d scanner or Nomad X-Ray unit.
How do we need so much 'stuff'? It's taken me the best part of a day to sort through and pack all this properly. I'm just glad it's just me, and not a whole team...

First Post

So, I've decided to take the plunge and start blogging. This site will mainly be about 3 areas- Palaeoanthropology, 3d scanning/printing, and my own research, which involves both of the former!
I will try to update fairly regularly, but can't promise anything...
I've also set up a twitter account @bones2bytes, which will probably be updated very frequently with links to stories I find interesting, and updates on research. I'll also be using this to post photos from data collection trips as well, (where permitted).
Watch this space...
